To advise Defra in understanding the state of fisheries management in the UK EEZ and future monitoring requirements, by undertaking research focused on understanding and capturing policy, political, operational, technical, and financial needs of stakeholders including operational teams, government agencies, and enforcement agencies.
The identification of future technological solutions for UK fisheries management integrating viable innovative fisheries technology.
HMC provided advice to Defra to understand the state of fisheries management in the UK EEZ and future monitoring requirements. We led a team of policy, technology, and Blue Economy experts to carry out primary and secondary research. The aim of the research was to understand and capture policy, political, operational, technical, and financial needs of stakeholders including operational teams, government agencies, and enforcement agencies.
We also undertook a technology review considering operational integration to maintain and improve fisheries management monitoring capabilities. A road map was then developed for the integration of new monitoring technologies considering cost effectiveness, upskilling, process, concept of operations, and ‘adoptability’. This roadmap provided recommendations to key government departments.
