Funding Mechanisms for Marine Net Gain

Project Aim:

To identify, evaluate and recommend viable funding mechanisms for delivering voluntary and mandatory Marine Net Gain in England.

HMC is currently undertaking a project for Natural England looking at the potential funding mechanisms for the delivery of voluntary and mandatory Marine Net Gain (MNG). This involves identifying and evaluating existing funding mechanisms for nature restoration, including their applicability to MNG; assessing the feasibility of adapting current mechanisms or developing a new dedicated fund for MNG; exploring stakeholder demand for a voluntary MNG fund and providing recommendations on legislative and structural changes needed to support both voluntary and mandatory MNG delivery.
