The aim of this project was to assess the effectiveness of the engagement materials and methods employed by the MMO in informing external decision makers about the utilisation of marine plans. Through surveys and workshops, HMC evaluated the existing methods, recommended enhancements, and examined the extent to which marine plans were incorporated into MMO decisions.
As a result of this project, HMC provided insightful recommendations for improving the engagement materials and methods used by the MMO to convey the usage of marine plans to external decision makers. Additionally, HMC's evaluation identified the extent to which marine plans influenced MMO decisions across various functions, while pinpointing obstacles that hindered their integration into decision-making processes.
In collaboration with the Marine Management Organisation (MMO), Howell Marine Consulting (HMC) undertook a comprehensive evaluation of engagement materials and methods used to equip external decision-makers with valuable insights for incorporating marine plans into their decision-making processes. This initiative aimed to enhance the utilisation of marine plans by providing decision-makers with effective tools and strategies.
The project encompassed a multifaceted approach, involving engagement with external decision-makers through surveys and workshops. HMC assessed the existing materials and methods employed by the MMO, critically analysing their effectiveness in conveying vital information about marine plans and their applications.
Drawing from the valuable input of external decision-makers, HMC formulated a series of recommendations designed to enhance the current methods and materials. These recommendations were strategically developed to empower decision-makers with more actionable insights, ultimately fostering an environment conducive to increased utilisation of marine plans.
Additionally, HMC extended its evaluation to delve into the practical application of marine plans and plan policies within the functions of the MMO. This in-depth process evaluation aimed to establish the extent to which marine plans were being integrated into the decision-making processes of the MMO across its various functions.
As a result, the evaluation not only shed light on the actual usage of marine plans but also identified potential obstacles and barriers impeding their effective integration. This insight-driven approach facilitated the identification of key areas for improvement, paving the way for informed strategies to enhance the seamless integration of marine plans into MMO decision-making processes.
The collaborative effort between HMC and the MMO showcased a commitment to fostering an informed and efficient decision-making landscape. Through this project, HMC demonstrated its dedication to promoting sustainable marine practices by ensuring that marine plans play a pivotal role in guiding crucial decisions within the marine management domain.
