HMC provided ocean governance expertise to develop a strategic framework to guide both the development and implementation of management plans for Marine Protected Areas in Seychelles, including those designated under the Seychelles Marine Spatial Plan (MSP). Analysis was undertaken of the policy and legislative landscape, as well as a review of institutional capacity, to inform the direction of MPA management in Seychelles.
Our work facilitated stakeholder agreement on defining a spatially explicit management framework. We also provided guidance on the development of management units that are robust in ecological and socioeconomic terms whilst also practical in terms of institutional mandates, capabilities, and ease of implementation.
We produced a strategic framework for the development and implementation of management plans that addressed the specificities of management units and ensured harmonisation with the Seychelles MSP and other policy objectives, economies of scale and efficiencies in implementation.
