We are thrilled to announce the promotion of two key members of the Howell Marine Consulting (HMC) team, and the appointment of a new strategic lead. As a leading marine consultancy, HMC is committed to advancing sustainable ocean solutions and driving innovation in marine policy and management. These new appointments underscore HMC’s commitment to expanding our expertise and driving the transition to a sustainable blue future.
We are delighted to promote Dr Lucy Greenhill to Associate Director – Blue Economy and Ness Smith to Associate Director – Natural Capital. In their new roles, Lucy and Ness will leverage their extensive experience to further develop HMC’s capabilities.
Dr Lucy Greenhill, a valued member of the HMC team since 2020, has over 15 years of experience in ocean governance. Lucy will lead efforts within HMC’s Blue Economy portfolio in the UK and overseas, continuing to focus on projects that foster integrated marine planning and innovative delivery methods for a sustainable Blue Economy.
Ness Smith joined HMC in 2022 as an experienced marine biologist with expertise in the application of natural capital approaches to policy development, sustainable finance options, and marine management in the UK and internationally. Ness will lead HMC’s Natural Capital portfolio, continuing to focus on projects that improve outcomes for biodiversity, climate, and poverty alleviation.
We are also excited to announce the appointment of Dr Steve Gibson who joins HMC as Associate Director – Strategy, from a 30-year government career at Defra and the JNCC. Steve will be integral to shaping HMC’s strategic direction, fostering innovation, and ensuring our project portfolios align with the evolving needs of marine policy and sustainable ocean management.
These three new associate director roles join Dr Ed Willsteed, Associate Director – Fisheries, in supporting Prof. Dickon Howell, founder and CEO of HMC. Together this enhanced leadership team will further solidify HMC’s reputation as a leading marine consultancy, delivering innovative and practical solutions for a sustainable future for our ocean.
